Cardiac Tests & Diagnostic Procedures

A test should answer a question. Most of what is listed here is done in our own office, and I read the echocardiograms and nuclear studies myself.

How I decide what to order

01 / Approach

I order a test when the result would change what we do, not as a reflex and not to be thorough for its own sake. If I'm not recommending a test you expected, ask me — I'd rather explain than order something that won't help.

Cardiac CT goes through outside facilities, and a transesophageal echocardiogram is done at Delray Medical Center, where I direct the Echocardiography Laboratory. Everything else below is performed in our Delray Beach offices.

Tests and monitoring

02 / What we offer
Advanced cardiac imaging
Cardiac CT / CT coronary angiography (CTCA)
Through outside facilities. Non-invasive 3D imaging to calculate coronary calcium scores or visualize arterial blockages, enhanced with HeartFlow or Cleerly AI analysis for a fuller picture of coronary circulation and cardiac risk.
What a CT angiogram sees that a calcium score can’t →
Nuclear cardiology (on-site)
SPECT nuclear stress testing using radiotracers to measure myocardial blood flow and perfusion.
Ambulatory monitoring
Electrocardiogram (ECG / EKG)
Standard baseline tracing of the heart's electrical activity.
EKG monitoring
Zio patch monitor, worn for up to 14 days for continuous recording or for mobile telemetry with remote monitoring, to capture intermittent rhythm abnormalities.
Blood pressure monitoring
With a BioBeat monitor, we can monitor your blood pressure silently and noninvasively for 24 hours.
Pacemaker / ICD / loop recorders
We monitor our patients' implanted devices both remotely and in our office.
Stress testing
Treadmill exercise stress test
Evaluates blood pressure, rhythm, and ischemic ECG changes during physical exertion. Often done with nuclear imaging to increase the accuracy.
When a stress test helps, and why I don’t order one without symptoms →
Pharmacological stress test
Uses medication (e.g., regadenoson) with nuclear imaging for patients who cannot exercise on a treadmill.

Echocardiography

03 / Ultrasound imaging

Transthoracic echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms and transesophageal studies have their own page, with what each test involves and where it is performed.
